I was looking at typography and designed this poster on Helvetica. I wanted to showcase the font and experiment with layout and colour at the same time.

We were challenged to create signage for our Vis Com studio area. One problem is that there are no signs to let visitors or guests know what year group is in which studio. Another problem in the department is that there are no ways for the year groups to communicate with each other apart from via email. This works for forward planning but can become a problem if there is a last minute room change or cancelled class. I combined these two problems to create interactive notice boards. Outside each studio space there would be a large number, representing each year group. The numbers would be painted in chalkboard paint so that they double up as class notice boards for students and lecturers to communicate with each other.

I was looking at the word of designer Gordan Young who does a lot of work with Why Not Associates. He designed a one-hundred-metre pathway of names laser cut in chequer plate steel for the yorkshire sculpture park. a fund-raising venture where over 5,000 visitors payed to have their name inscribed on the path. I liked the thought that the design is infinite and keeps growing as the numbers of donors increases. I designed a ‘Vis Com Walk of Art’. It would start at the doors that mark the beginning of the department and contain the names of all the students that have graduated from the course since it moved into the new university building. It would go from the doors, through the corridor and into the main Vis Com area. The colour of the writing could change for each year, making it easier for ex students to find their names. The design would be relatively cheap to execute, needing only floor paint and a stencil.

I really love cover design and wanted to design my own covers. I made myself a brief for the magazine I was designing for. I wanted it to appeal to people like myself, females in their late teens/ early twenties who have an interest in fashion. Similar to the likes of Cosmopolitan or Company. I did everything from planning the hair and make-up, photography, typography and layout. I’m pleased with the outcome.

Self portrait in a match box

In our illustration class in first year we were challenged to create a self portrait in a matchbox! As I’m well known for my curly hair I wanted to include this aspect, as well as keeping it fun and light hearted!

Self portrait in one penny coins

In a project focusing on pixels we had to create a self portrait in an media we wanted, as long as it was 32 x 32 pixels. I did this portrait in one penny coins. I’m worth £4.31.

Pop art self portrait

I have  a signature pose that I do any time a camera come out! I wanted to capture part of my personality in this portrait and I think i achieved this well.
